I wonder...

In light of today's event, it got me thinking. Who came out on top as a result? Or is there even a "winner" as maybe both did? I'm wondering about this because of recent events. Maybe it's a wakeup call that we need. We've always thought we're in the clear, saying how if Americans are visiting overseas, they would pretend to be Canadians; however, one must remember how often we mock them for their decisions and/or actions... In short, I believe we're comforting ourselves based on their actions, yet it's their actions that we jest. I guess I'm a bit paranoid, but considering how close we came to nuclear war at least once and the type of pathogens that were (and possibly still are being) created and manufactured, we sure don't think much about the big picture. (And if you know the numbers possible, you'd probably be a bit freaked too.) Basically, I'm trying to say that we've already achieved the means for some devastating effect and we need to look outside our shell.

Anyway, today's event put the public on edge, but I guess on the bright side, it can also be viewed as a way to give emergency personel (and perhaps the public) practice. But with that being said, one might also, and probably should, consider why it did happen. Well, I'll leave it at that for now lest I'll be mocked along with analysts who discuss vulnerable targets...

From the days of BBS...

Well, I guess almost... (Lord of the Red Dragon, LORD, or Usurper anyone?) but yeah, after visiting craigslist from suberfantacularizzle, I encountered a reference to www.archive.org. And damn, that site is just awesome! So many things are kept on record, including major sites from '96! That Wayback machine is just so fucking neat. The earliest archived Yahoo! page still had the submit your site - heh, I remember those days when all the engines were like "Submit your site here!" There were lycos, infoseek, hotbot, and the google of the time, alta vista... According to it's faq, "The Internet Archive Wayback Machine contains approximately 1 petabyte of data and is currently growing at a rate of 20 terabytes per month." [1 petabyte = 1,125,899,906,842,624 bytes (in binary prefix)] Damn, I need to find me LORD...

Maybe it is in the gutter...

For those of you who get disgusted easily, I suggest you ignore this post. I've prolly already scared away more ppl than I can afford to. I should also say not suitable for young children, but they prolly know more than me anyway. So yeah, I've got a friend who has perhaps a questionable mind and would once in a while say

Long and thin gets it in,
but short and thick does the trick.

or some variation of that... Well, it made me think of

Fast and rough gets 'em up quick,
but slow and gentle gets 'em out thick.

Not as eloquent nor optimistic as the first one, but meh, it rhymes...
Damn, I've gotta stop thinking about po- etry... Poetry.

Prey

WTH was up with that book? I just finished reading it and was it me or were there a lot of holes in the "science"/"technology" used by Crichton? If any of you are knowledgeable in the areas of distributed network processing and/or nanotechnology and have read the book, pls let me know. It seemed that for them to operate as described in his book is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too farfetched... I mean, I can understand some embellishment, but it seemed like he even went beyond the scope that he had outlined early on in his book. I mean, wtf, it was almost as if he forgot the initial parameters and just wrote some half-ass novel. Especially when I'm pretty sure he miscounted the frames per second conversion as well as the number of thermite caps... It was just... sloppiness... Bleah... Ah well, at least it was about a topic I like... and at the very least, it's got me more interested in machine intelligence and maybe the marriage of machine vision and nano/MEMS (ugh, more CCDs...), as medical imaging is an important field...

This would've made Matrix cool...

I'm thiefing this from Aaron (thanks :D) but man, they so should've done something like this in the Matrix.

Katana vs bullets:
9mm test
0.5cal test

Heh, btw, while whether or not my mind is in the gutter is debatable, I don't just pick female characters... my 2 main characters in WOW are female characters...

[Edit] Thanks for the correction :D

Today's a new day

Well, actually this was meant to be written yesterday, but today is a new day anyway. As is any day. Anyway, the reason for this post is to thank everyone who has been asking/looking after me as apparently, I've been acting even more strange than normal (heh, as if that's possible :D) So yeah, I'm all good, just too bad trip's not happening this summer or there'd be more interesting tales being posted XDDDDDDDDDDD
